I’M A UK BASED COMPOSER OF BOTH BESPOKE AND LIBRARY MUSIC
My library music is published by a number of leading libraries including BMG, Mega Trax and Warner Chappell with some recent placements including BBC This is My House, BBC Gardener’s World, BBC Sort Your Life Out, BBC Bargain Hunt, Channel 5 Jane McDonald My Yorkshire, BBC The Apprentice, BBC Sports Personality of the Year, The Loud House, I Carly and American Pickers.
I’ve been a musician all of my life in that I started playing the recorder and violin at primary school through to postgraduate studies at Trinity College of Music London.
I graduated as a professional brass player with a passion for the symphonic repertoire but I also have a deep love of choral music, film music, more recently games music and anything with musical integrity that moves me.
I’ve always written music, even right back at the beginning when I was learning the recorder! Throughout my adult life music has been a constant source of inspiration, solace and joy.
As well as being a composer I’m a Dad to three young adult girls, a photographer and a keen cyclist and runner. I enjoy walking in the hills and excellent beer. I’m really not keen on board games, films with talking animals in or eating fish! ……I’m currently watching Breaking Bad for the second time round….
Why Games?
The first game I ever played was Journey.
At the end of playing I was exhausted, moved and overwhelmed. It felt like a home coming, like I’d missed something that I never knew existed. I knew from that moment, even as a virgin gamer, that I had to write music for games. For me it’s the perfect marriage of music with purpose, creative collaboration and a medium through which a magical synthesis of the arts and technology can enhance the lives of others.
I have found myself drawn to games of beauty, story and character driven games where there’s a sense for the player of really developing over time. I haven’t replayed Journey as I’m not sure the reverent experience I had first time would be the same again but I love Abzu, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Erica, Dear Esther, The First Tree, A Short Hike……
